I have a natural low singing voice. I'm between Contralto and Mezzo soprano. I can sing both but I sing Contralto easier. Maybe it's because I sung along to a lot of songs by Prince, The Temptations, KISS, Lita Ford, Joan Jett, The Commodores, James Brown, and a lot of the old Blues singers from the 30's on up. I love to sing the song "Can I Get A Witness" by The Commodores. I'm a very petite woman but I have a huge voice. I can rip into the Blues like Minnie The Moocher" good at Karaoke. I love to sing that Hi Dee Hi Dee Ho part of the song. However I want to be able to sing in my falsetto voice better because when I do Karaoke I want to be able to sing Prince's songs better. I can get my voice almost that high, but not quite. I can get that scream down that he does on the songs "Sexuality," "DMSR," and "Baby I'm A Star." You know that scream that he was famous for doing. Someone once asked me to do that Prince scream from down the street to see if she could hear me from way down the street (we're talking pretty far) and I did the yell. She heard me from all the way down the street. I have a very big voice that travels far. So, how do I learn to sing in my higher range in my voice?
I would focus on perfecting your own sound and vocal technique making sure you have healthy sound production is more important than trying to sound like other artists, especially Prince who we all know had an immense gifting almost unmatchable by mere mortals lol.
