Frank Sinatra (Control, sustain and tone all superb, but had a low belting ceiling even compared to other crooners. 2 or 3?)
Glenn Hughes (1 or 2?)
Kurt Cobain (3 or 4? Belted out some good highs, but some messy control too)
Paul McCartney (2 or 3?)
Sting (2 or 3?)
Ville Valo (2 or 3?)
Billy Corgan: Easily a 5, textbook definition of 'belting is not their thing' Courtney Love: Three, at the absolute lowest. Courtney was a powerhouse, and definitely influenced a massive bulk of female rock vocalists that came after her (Emily Armstrong, etc). Elton John: I'd say 3? Frank Sinatra: Two at the absolute lowest. Unless this thread is about range or something stupid and I wasn't informed. Glenn Hughes: Easily a two. I could get behind a one if anyone made a good case for it. Kurt Cobain: Tier Three. (You said it was about the sound and not the technique anyway, so I don't see much of an issue with this one) Paul McCartney: Either two or one. Sting: Tier two, I'd say. Ville Valo: Tier three, not a masterful blender. Chokes a bit often.
